Abstract:

The ancients left many writings with multiple themes; it is being combined and distinguished by the prominence of the religious component; despite of its difference. The Man’s fear had led him to believe in existence of a god controlling his life and his field, made him worship and pray faithfully, to win contentment and blessings and stop discontent and curses. Praying was one of the manifestations of religiosity.

The subject of cursing is one of the topics that it is good to stand on, because it contains special phrases that are used to inflict evil on opponents and those who think to harm.

This research sheds the light on the curse phrases used in the ancient Aramaic, shows the linguistic part, and refers to the words, their connotations, their contexts, and the religious intellectual visions, what are those phrases? What is the expressive methods used in?  What is the purpose of those words? What is the meaning of it? In addition, what are its intellectual, religious and social dimensions?

The nature of the research had requeried following the descriptive-analytical method, so the praying for evil was indicated in ancient Aramaic, was arranged chronologically, and their curse phrases were extracted, and then they were highlighted stylistically and semantically.
