Abstract:

This research aims to highlight on the political poetry of Ali ibn al-Jahm (188-249 AH), by studying his poetry when he was imprisoned by the Abbasid Caliph al-Mutawakkil on Allah. I began the research by talking about the role of prison in provoking poetry, then I explained the reason for the poet’s imprisonment and his relation to the political world. I started talking about the poet’s condition in the first days of his prison where he did not raise his voice with a complaint and went on talking to his Caliph with confidence and pride not to take him with the words of the corrupters, but the matter was not long until he started praising his Caliph as a relative of the Prophet Muhammed, peace be upon him , who forgave people. But his poetry fill of deaf caliph. He began gradually apologizing to him, that he did not  committ a sin and the caliph is a man of forgiveness. The poet  got his freedom.

In spite of his beginning of his imprisonment changed his attitude about his caliph but he did not rebel against him and did not turn against his master that means the fortitude of  his political attitude and has a loyalty to  Abbasi in spite of all bad circumstances.

The research followed the descriptive analytical method, so it analyzed  the poetry of Ibn al-Jahm in his prison and studied its causes.
